Configure Your Orinoco Under Windows2000 / ME / 98SE

The Orinoco Client software places a signal strength indicator on in the system tray by your clock. This icon can be used as a reference for your Wi-Fi connection strength when you are connected.. To open up the client software, simply double-click on the signal icon in the system tray.

After double-clicking on the Client Manager's system tray icon, the Orinoco Client Manager window will open up. To configure your machine for WhidbeyNET Wi-Fi access, click on the Action pull-down menu and click on Add/Edit Configuration Profile (If your computer has already been configured for WhidbeyNET Wi-Fi then you should be able to click on Select Configuration Profile, and then click on the WhidbeyNET Wi-Fi Profile you previously created).

In the Add/Edit Configuration Profile window, click on Add to create a WhidbeyNET Wi-Fi profile.

The Add button will bring up a window called Edit Configuration. The window names are not totally intuitive. In this window, type in a name to identfy your profile. WhidbeyNET Wi-Fi has a good ring to it, and is easily identifiable. Select Access Point for the network type. Click on Next to continue with configuration.

For the Network Name, you can type in WhidbeyNET Wi-Fi, or if you're in a WhidbeyNET Wi-Fi hotspot, you can simply click on Scan and then select the WhidbeyNET Wi-Fi access point. Click on Next to continue.

Leave Enable Data Security unchecked. WEP is not initially turned on for public access reasons. Rest assured, your data will be encrypted during the login process, and your connection will be encrypted with WEP after your login. Click on Next to continue.

For best performance, leave power management off. Unfortunately, the high performance mode may consume more battery power if your computer is not running off of AC Power. This is truly a customer preference. Click on Next.

Check the option that says Renew IP Address When Selecting This Profile. This option will force your Wireless network adapter to renew your network address. If the computer system does not automatically renew your network address and instead uses an address from a previous Wi-Fi connection, you may have to manually renew the address. Click on Finish.

Once connected, you should see this balloon message indicating that you are now connected to the WhidbeyNET Wi-Fi Network. Now that you're connected, you can continue to the Login Process.
